Understanding Catholic Identity

The Four Pillars of Catholic Formation
Catholic education is built upon four essential areas of formation: Intellectual, Spiritual, Pastoral, and Human. Together, these pillars support our mission to foster academic excellence, spiritual growth, leadership in service, and healthy human development.
Intellectual Formation
We cultivate strong cognitive and academic skills through a dynamic and integrative curriculum. Students are invited into a joyful and adventurous learning environment where they develop foundational knowledge, critical thinking, and the ability to connect classroom learning with life beyond school.
Spiritual Formation
At Saint David, faith is at the heart of all we do. Guided by the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church, we help students form a deepening relationship with God, neighbor, and life itself. Students participate in daily religion instruction, prayer, liturgies, and sacramental preparation—receiving Penance and First Communion in 2nd grade and Confirmation in 7th grade. These sacred milestones are celebrated with reverence and joy, affirming each child’s unique spiritual journey.
Pastoral Formation
We teach students that true Christian discipleship involves serving others. Through classroom experiences, leadership opportunities, and meaningful outreach, students learn to recognize the needs of others and respond with compassion. Our school-wide Service Learning Day and ongoing service projects help students understand their call to be disciples who love, lead, and serve both the Church and the wider community.
Human Formation
Healthy personal development is essential for a well-ordered and joyful life. We guide students in managing their emotions, relationships, and responsibilities through structure, discipline, and supportive daily interactions. This area of formation strengthens character, teaches respect, and encourages students to develop the habits necessary for living out the Gospel.

As such, Catholic education seeks to form students in the image of Jesus Christ, who modeled these wholesome and universal qualities in his very life. Inspired by his example and teachings, Saint David Catholic School faithfully strives to implement this educational approach and values in its students while trying to help them discover the broadness and wonder which lies within God, themselves and life.
Formation of the Whole Family
Recognizing that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith and form what we call the "Domestic Church" - the Church of the Home, Saint David Catholic School offers ongoing parent faith-formation opportunities throughout the year. These gatherings help families deepen Catholic values at home and strengthen the spiritual life of our broader community.
Our commitment to forming the whole family also includes encouraging regular Mass attendance, both on weekends and during school liturgies, as an essential part of living the Catholic faith. To support and affirm this partnership, Saint David participates in a Family Commitment Program, which invites families to engage actively in parish life, worship, and service, helping to unify the home, school, and Church in a shared mission of discipleship.
